Shake Shack coming to Westport

by:

BREAKING BURGER NEWS: New York’s Shake Shack has announced they are bringing their celebrated burgers and frozen custard — and probably the insanely long lines that go with them — to “the idyllic coastal town of Westport.”

Anyone who’s waited in line for a half-hour at the original Madison Square Park location in Manhattan will appreciate an announcement of this magnitude.

This is huge.

Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group has been continually expanding their empire over the last few years with additional Shake Shack and Blue Smoke locations (even talk of one in Greenwich at one point), but this will by the first shack in Connecticut.

According to the company, the restaurant will setup shop at 1849 Post Road East, just off I-95 in the second half of 2011.

Westport is apparently a draw in the burger world, with Five Guys, a Virginia-based chain with similarly fervent fans, opening a restaurant in town about a year ago.

Stay tuned burger fans…

the burger at black duck is very good but the ambience is a bit of a challenge. But the one that SS will be compared to is Burgers Shakes and Fries. Make people wait 40 minutes and they’ll head to Darien for a really tasty burger.

Fudrucker’s couldn’t cut it, even with great burgers. I’ve tried “five guys” and find them to be a knock off of in-n-out. They may have the pricey Southport brewery shaking, but who really goes there for the burgers? The Duck doesn’t have any worries. If you don’t like the duck’s “ambiance”, don’t go there. More room for the rest of us. Great food, pleasant staff, unlike some some of the overpriced snooty restaurants in that block, with ratings in guide books.

Five Guys is great.Prices are reasonable ( I recently ate a $10 “slider” in a NYC place. And fresh cut fries? Can’t beat them !

The Black Duck is a dive that happens to make amazing food. You don’t go there for the ambience. I’ll take their food over Shake Shack, which is going to end up being a lot of hype over yet another burger joint. Though there’s also a Five Guys in Norwalk now. They’re taking over (not that I mind!).

Don’t forget Westport already has the best burger in CT, @ Le Farm. But yeah, Stamford could definitely use a great burger joint for those who do not want to travel to Greenwich.
