University of Southern Mississippi band members yelled “Where’s your green card?” to a Puerto Rican basketball player during a game Thursday, CNN reported.

Southern Mississippi was playing Kansas State University in an NCAA tournament, which was televised.

Angel Rodriguez, a Kansas State student, was being yelled at while shooting free throws.

“I heard it. I don’t pay attention to that nonsense, especially because Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, so we don’t need no type of papers,” Rodriguez told CNN today.

Kansas State won the game. Rodriguez scored 13 points.

Martha Saunders, the president of Southern Miss, has issued an apology.

What kind of discipline, if any, do you think these students should receive?

Is it racist to find this humorous?

He deserves a lot of credit for having a sense of humor about it, but he also deserves a lot more than an apology statement released to the press. The school should be harsh about it. At the very least, they should be kicked out of the band immediately and put on some kind of disciplinary probation.
