Mixing It Up

A closer look at cultural diversity

Where are the white babies?

For the first time in history, there are now more minority babies being born in the country than white babies, according to an article on Yahoo.

“This is an important landmark,” said Roderick Harrison, a former chief of racial statistics at the Census Bureau who is now a sociologist at Howard University. “This generation is growing up much more accustomed to diversity than its elders.”

I wonder if “people of color” will stop being called minorities if their numbers surpass those of the the white population.

Elise M. says: “I can’t help but feel scared for the future of our children. Having the minorities be the majority will make this country one crazy place to live in. It may sound harsh but we all know it’s true. Just think of all the extra illegal aliens too.”

This actually makes some sense, if you consider what the state of the countries all these minorities came from originally is today. If the economies and culture of their own countries was so terrific, they wouldn’t be HERE using up all OUR resources.

AOL has a story this morn. about a black guy that fathered 30 kids. You win!

Maybe the population will become more intelligint since poeple of white color focus on ignorance and hate of others. My opinion but jus sayin.

The minorities out number the majority in a number of Danbury schools and they are still called minorities. Is that the case in Bridgeport? Question answered. You will always be a minority when it comes to the News Times editorial board. But when you do out number the majority, and you will, could the chief of racial statistics job be given to a white?

And what did you do for a living. Oh, I was Chief of racial statistics for the census bureau. Gotta love big government.

diversity causes social and economic hardships but us getting through that makes us stronger.

that being said, kiss a black man already, alex!

“Diversity is the source of our strength and economic growth” is a quote from the news times in an article explaining the success in revitalizing the Danbury downtown and making it a destination spot.

“Looking forward to continued diversity – it makes us stronger as a society.”

Would you care to explain this? Diversity is a constant source of distrust and hostility, leading to a widespread disengagement from civic life. How could it in any way be considered a strength?

It will be interesting to see the dating pool in the next 20-30 years. With more minorities on the way this will emphasize the humorous phrase, “Where de white women at?”. :)

Looking forward to continued diversity – it makes us stronger as a society.

U.S. statistiics show that more violent crimes are committed by people of color than any other race. If there will be more babies of color, can we expect violent crime to go up in the future? Also, is this offensive or racist to talk about?

  12. wow says:

Rev Al, no, not exactly. Reality is, children are expensive. Obviously, right? The trend for the “majority” has been to have fewer children because of the expense. Even then, families are struggling. The “minority” population is still a smaller number of people than the “majority” population is, but are now having more total children. Thus, not adhering to the idea of smaller families. That is why I think the resources will be strained, more children=more money.

  13. Rev Al says:

“minorities are outpacing their resources” Is that a politically correct way of saying that at some point there won’t be enough white folks to provide for the large numbers of black folks?

  14. wow says:

First off, Stacy, you do realize that the whites are considered the “majority” not only because there are more of them, but because they are the ones who hold the power? Look at South Africa as an example, there were a heck of a lot less whites, but were still the “majority.”

Diversity is a great thing, and if children can be raised color blind, this country would be a much better place. However, I would be concerned that the minorities are outpacing their own resources.

But now we have to get those black babies introduced to their fathers.
