New Canaan’s Pop Up Park Committee (that’s a real thing!) is calling for suggestions for what the park should be named. From Tucker Murphy, the Exec. Dir. of the Chamber of Commerce:
The Pop Up Park Committee is hard at work planning events that will be held in the Pop Up Park area for Summer 2013. Ideas include flower markets, music, fitness activities, art displays, children’s activities etc. What we need is a name? For those creative thinkers out there we need your help. We would like the name to reflect many aspects of the Park which include the “New Canaan” brand. Got any ideas? Send to Tucker Murphy, Executive Director of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce at Tucker@newcanaanchamber.com
1) The Nook of New Canaan (not to be confused with the New Canaan Nook, in the same way that there is no New Canaan Country Club): Placed just off Elm Street, the area has serious nook-like qualities.
2) The Pop Up Piazza: Many who responded to the Pop Up Park survey said the park reminded them of Europe. While hard working, financial sector-oriented New Canaan lacks the scores of unemployed men casually sipping espresso at all hours of the day, this name brings a little of that relaxed lifestyle to town. Plus, points for alliteration.
3) Piazza di Ralfizzio Lorenzo: Continuing with the European theme, and considering that piazzas are frequently named for that which they lead up to, it only seems fitting that the Pop Up Park, situated across the street from the Ralph Lauren store, take its name. Ralph Lauren is also reportedly a resident of nearby Katonah, NY, and has been frequently spotted in New Canaan. And what more could encapsulate the New Canaan brand than Ralph Lauren?
