Nearly 50 infractions issued during distracted driving enforcement

The Town of Wilton had the highest number of infractions issued during a special three-agency distracted driving task force on Monday, June 16, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, of the New Canaan Police Department.

Twenty-one infractions were issued while police officers from Wilton, New Canaan and Norwalk were on Danbury Road, between the Norwalk line and Westport Road. New Canaan and Norwalk each saw 14 infractions.

The three police departments joined forces to crack down on distracted drivers between 7:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Monday. Among the three towns, 49 infractions were issued.

The “zero tolerance” enforcement started on Richards Avenue in Norwalk at 7:30 a.m., continued on New Norwalk Road, near Locust Avenue, in New Canaan from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before it moved to Wilton, where 17 infractions for cellphone use were issued.
