More than 500 people gathered at New Canaan’s Pop-Up Park Sunday, June 22, to watch U.S.A. take on the Portugal team.

After a crowded World Cup event Sunday at the Pop-Up Park, where at least 500 people gathered to watch the thrilling 2-2 draw between the U.S. and Portugal, New Canaan residents will have another chance to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup in big screens this Thursday, when the U.S. soccer team plays Germany.

The New Canaan Nature Center will be hosting a community viewing event starting at 12 p.m., featuring food from Wendy’s Weenies and LobsterCraft food trucks.

Those planning to attend should park at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church or at the New Canaan Presbyterian Church as the nature center’s lot will be closed.

The winner of the game wins the group, but a draw advances both teams to the round of 16. The U.S. could still clinch a spot in the next round even if it loses, depending on what happens in the Portugal vs. Ghana match.
