New Canaanites take ice bucket challenge

The ice bucket challenge phenomenon is making its way into New Canaan.

Town residents Ann Curry, Joe Scarborough and Harry Connick Jr. have joined an increasing number of celebrities to accept the challenge, which is part of a campaign to raise money for the fight against ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Curry posted the following video on YouTube this Wednesday and challenged George Clooney and New York Times’ columnist Nicholas Kristof.

Also this week, American Idol judge Harry Connick Jr. did his own version of the challenge with an ice machine. He posted this hilarious video on Instagram on Sunday:

MSNBC anchors Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski took the challenge together on live TV Aug. 8:

New Canaan resident and NBC Nightly News’ anchor Brian Williams also has been nominated by Matt Lauer and Jimmy Fallon but he still hasn’t accepted it.

As of Wednesday, the ALS Association has received $31.5 million in donations compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year, July 29 to Aug. 20, according to the association’s website.
