The sixth annual All Out for Autism Run/Walk is taking over the center of New Canaan tonight.
The event, which is presented by New Balance New Canaan, Special Education Network of New Canaan and the New Canaan YMCA, seeks to raise awareness and support autism in the community.
Proceeds will benefit programs and events for those with special needs, especially at the YMCA.
The kids race begins at 6:15 p.m. and the open race kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
Runners and walkers will travel west on Elm Street, which will be closed during the event; north on Weed Street; east on West Road and south on Oenoke Ridge Road toward Main Street, where the race will end near Elm Street at about 8:30 p.m. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area since there will be road closures during the event.
In past races, proceeds have supported the New Canaan YMCA and helped built the fitness path that was especially designed for the needs of individuals with autism.
Participants can register online at alloutforautism.org, in person at the New Balance store on 128 Main St. or at the race. Admission is $30.
