The Newtown Youth Academy is getting a donation of murals for the walls of the Fairfield Hills campus sports and fitness center that has been an oasis for many families in the aftermath of the Dec. 14 mass shooting tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elemenetary School. On Oct. 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the murals will be unveiled to an invitation-only audience by the California artist Nichole Blackburn.
Blackburn’s creation is intended to showcase life-size scenes that “mimic the spirit of those who visit the NYA and the entire community,” said an academy news release.
Representatives from other organizations that made the murals possible will also be available during the open house, including Sherwin Williams, Purdy Paint Supplies, Modello Designs and Magna Construction.
Academy officials welcome the public to come and be “positive amazed by the new vibrancy felt throughout the facility,” the release states.
