Return to scene of crime costs woman who passed fake $100s

DANBURY — A Queens, N.Y. woman who successfully passed counterfeit $100 bills at the Danbury Fair mall two weeks ago wasn’t as lucky when she tried to do the same thing on Saturday, police said.

This time, employees at Sears recognized 53-year-old Sharon Diaz when she returned to the store to make another purchase shortly before 7 p.m., and contacted police, who took her into custody,

Diaz was found to be in possession of 12 phony bills, which she said shhe got from her roommate, even though police said she previously told them she was homeless.

The bills were turned over to the Secret Service to continue the investigation.

Diaz was being held on $25,000 bond for an appearance Monday in state Superior Court, where she faces two counts each of first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.
