Newtown officer’s wife has gun arrest

NEWTOWN  Elen Cole, 53, the wife of Newtown Police Sgt. John Cole, is facing several criminal charges after allegedly firing a gun during an argument with her husband in a Salisbury hotel where they were staying, according to The Register Citizen.

Judicial website records show Cole is free on $2,500 bond after her Nov. 17 arrest. She is facing charges of illegal discharge of a firearm, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief, according to the Judicial website. Her next court date is Jan.16, 2014 in Superior Court in Bantam. She has not yet entered a plea, according to the website.

The Register Citizen, citing court records, reports that one Federal .45 caliber automatic shell casing was entered into evidence from the Nov. 16 Salisbury incident by the Troop B State Trooper investigating the incident.

A protective order was issued by Superior Court Judge Richard Marano requiring Cole to surrender any firearms and ammunition she owns and to stay away from her husband, The Register Citizen reports.
