NEW MILFORD — A 33-year-old local man is facing drunken driving charges stemming from a motor vehicle crash Tuesday.
Douglas Murphy, of Burnett Road, New Milford crashed a black 2012 Jeep Liberty into a utility pole on West Meetinghouse Road Tuesday about 6:21 p.m., according to police.
The 911 caller reported Murphy was still in the vehicle which was entangled in wires from the downed utility pole and attempting to get out of the car. When officers arrived on the scene, Murphy had fled. He was later located and arrested, police said.
West Meetinghouse Road remained closed until 11:22 p.m. Tuesday for pole repair.
Murphy was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs’ evading responsibility, making an unsafe turn and failure to notify DMV on change of address.
He was released on $500 bond with a court date of July 28 in Superior Court in Bantam.
