Mother who burned her daughters will enter plea

Alexandra Aucapina, 27, who is accused of beating her five daughters with belts, rods, and cords will be in Superior Court in Danbury on August 11.

Aucapina has two cases pending with a total of 12 counts of child abuse. She has pleaded not guilty to charges she received in February and will enter a plea for the 10 new charges that were brought against her Tuesday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen Zingaro has been assigned to Aucapina’s case. If convicted, Aucapina is facing years of prison due to the dozen counts against her.  She has five counts of risk of injury to a child, each count potentially carrying a 10 year sentence, said Zingaro.

Her other charges of assault and unlawful restrain, carry five years for each count. And reckless endangerment and cruelty to a child carry a one year sentence.

Zingaro would not comment on details of the case, but did say she wants to keep the five girl’s involvement to a minimal.

Aucapina has been released on a $25,000 bond.
