An imposter claiming to be the brother of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza tricked the New York Post with an imposter Facebook message, the news site reported Sunday.
The New York Post initially reported that Ryan Lanza felt that that he is a victim and that he misses his deceased family members. That Post article was aggregated by other news sites, including the Huffington Post and this site.
“I am so tired of people blaming me for something my brother did,” the apparent imposter wrote to the newspaper. “I love Adam, his [sic] my brother.” The imposter also claimed to the Post that others had “no right to call my brother names when he isn’t here no more.”
The Post updated their story at 4:36 p.m. saying a spokesman for the Lanza family identified the Facebook text as being from an imposter and that “Ryan did not post the messages in this story.”
This is not the first time something incorrect has been attributed to Ryan Lanza. Immediately after the Dec. 14 shooting, web and broadcast reports erroneously identified him as the shooter. Their mother who was killed before the school shooting also was initially said to be a teacher, then not.
