Malloy could sign gun legislation tonight

By Ken Dixon

This could be the last day that Connecticut residents can purchase military-style weapons like the one used in the Sandy Hook School slaughter.

After action in the Senate and House this afternoon, Speaker of the House J. Brendan Sharkey plans to send the state’s historic gun control legislation straight to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who could sign it as soon as tonight.

Action on the 139-page bill, which would ban the sale of more than 100 makes of military-style rifles in an expansion of the state’s 1993 prohibition on assault weapons, will start in the Senate at about 11 a.m.

It will next head to the House.
