Victim father asks that anniversary be marked with kindness

In Neil Heslin’s mind, the best way to honor the 26 Sandy Hook Elementary School victims is to be good to one another.

Be it buying a cup of coffee for another person in line at Dunkin’ Donuts, or mowing a neighbor’s lawn, or just offering a friendly hug to someone who needs one, Heslin wants his son’s death to inspire good, not more heartache and hurt.

“I’ve had so many people ask me if there is anything they can do for me, or if there is anything I want for the holidays or Christmas,” Heslin said. “There is nothing I need or want.

“But the one thing I guess I would ask of people is that during this holiday season they just try and replace a negative or angry thought with a kind and posivie one. Reach out in kindness.”

“I hope to see all the politics left out of this anniversary. And let it be a a time to honor and remember the victims. That’s what I’m going to focus on.”
