In an entry last month, I reported how Netflix would no longer be stocking Warner Brothers movies day and date. Now, it’s Redbox’s turn. Nikki Finke reports Redbox will also implement a four-week delay on stocking the WB’s wares. The deal phases in through March, with the movie The Blind Side being the first for the four-week delay treatment.
Last month, a report was released stating half of the top 25 titles offered by Netflix before the arrangement wouldn’t have qualified to rank based on the arrangement. The whole point of these deals is to boost sales, which of course provides more revenue per consumer than a rental.
Will this encourage you to buy a title over waiting to rent? Does this reduce your interest in Redbox, or is the fact that renting is so inexpensive keep you in the game?

I really like Redbox, especially when traveling. Given its nationwide placement, you can rent some movies in Stamford, fly to your destination, drop them off there and rent new ones for the return trip. Of course this only works if you have a rental car or some other means to get to a location. This is way better than the airport kiosk rental locations. Waiting a few weeks for a release doesn’t seem to be a negative for me. Wht buy when you can rent!

While I understand the business reasons behind such a move, in no way will it inspire me to actually go out and purchase a movie before I can rent it. It does however, like you mentioned, reduce my attraction to Redbox somewhat.
