It seems everyone’s picking fights over the cost of programming these days. Earlier this week, Cablevision fired its latest salvo, this time against ABC, warning viewers that ABC may be pulled from the lineup due to excessive carriage fees. Sound familiar? Of course, given Cablevision had to shell out for HGTV and Food Network, one could understand how they wouldn’t want to just roll over and play dead each time one of these comes up – cable bills would become outrageous, because as we know they won’t just trim their profits; they’ll pass on the cost. As reported recently, they’ve been surveying customers over this issue.
But here’s another shocker: Hulu announced that they will no longer be offering The Daily Show and the Colbert Report soon due to being unable to come to terms with compensation for the programs. The shows will still be available on their respective Web sites. The Daily Show Web site has always been a bit ahead of the curve; they launched a clip viewer with over a decade’s worth of programming awhile back, that’s still fun to go back and watch even now.
