The Buzz

with Josh O'Connell

I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over my bag of Sun Chips.

Sun Chips recently introduced a new compostable bag that’s better for the environment. It’s a nice touch, but an unfortunate side effect is the bag is loud. How loud?

An Air Force pilot claims it’s louder than his plane. A test measured the bag’s noisiness at 95 decibels, almost 20 decibels above a normal bag of chips and above what could cause more permanent damage to hearing.

Frito Lay is working on a solution, but in the meantime, the Wall Street Journal reports they have attached signs to shelving where Sun Chips are sold reading, “Yes, the bag is loud, that’s what change sounds like.”

  1. “at 95 decibels, almost 20 decibels above a normal back of chips”

What exactly is a normal “back of chips”? I’ve never heard of a back of chips before.

  2. Serves me right to post at 11 at night :) Thanks Gary – that’s been corrected.
