Brewster Theater Company preparing “City of Angels” for area audiences

There’s a large group of people invested in showing you a good time in Brewster, if you like musicals. It’s the cast of Brewster Theater Company’s production of “City of Angels,” hitting the boards the first two weekends in August.
I was among a few people who got a sneak peek at some of their numbers last night, and it looks as if the show will be fun.
Picture this: 1940s, a story is being written about a detective hired to find a missing woman. You, in the audience, see the writer’s process and how events he experiences and people he encounters in his life affect the plot of the story he’s writing about a detective named Stone. It’s a film noir musical comedy.
We were treated to performances of “The Tennis Song,” whose double entendres provoked quite a few laughs;  “Everybody’s Gotta be Somewhere,” which had the full cast in near constant motion in the small rehearsal space; “Lost and Found,” when Stone comes across the sultry Mallory; and finally, “All You Have To Do Is Wait,” a celebratory salsa number during which the police rejoice at arresting someone for murder.

The cast boasts 32 members and the orchestra has 26 performers, so you may recognize a face or two, especially if you’re a regular audience member of our region’s theater productions.

Now we just have to wait for Aug. 1, 2, 3, 9 or 10, to see the full production at Brewster High School. More details and ticket info can be found at http://www.brewstertheatercompany.org/CurrentSeason/CityofAngels/Overview/index.html
