DANBURY — Police charged a 57-year-old Danbury man with drunken driving after he left the scene of an accident at Triangle and Taylor streets Saturday afternoon.

William Walsh, of Mable Street, rear-ended a car that was stopped at the intersection about 5:20 p.m. and was taken into custody at White Street and Beaverbrook Road a few minutes later.

Police said before the accident, Walsh had also been observed driving on the sidewalk and hitting a mailbox.

In addition to drunken driving, he was also cited for evading responsibility, no insurance, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to drive to the right and following too close, police said.
