DANBURY – A Springfield, Mass. man was arrested early Sunday after he allegedly attacked a police officer who was trying to break up a fight outside an Elm Street nightspot.

Police had been called to a  disturbance at Mambo’s Cafe just after 1:30 a.m. and found six men fist-fighting outside the bar. As Officer Dave Pardovuch tried to separate the combatants, Espinal came up from behind and punched him in the face, police said.

Espinal ran off, but was apprehended after a short foot chase on New Street.

He was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with police and breach of peace, and was released on $10,000 bond for a Nov. 20 court appearance.
