The 12.14 Foundation’s first theatrical production in 2014 will be “A ROCKIN’ Midsummer Night’s Dream” – a world premiere adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. The musical will be adapted by producer/director Michael Unger and Eric Svejcar with a score by Mr. Svejcar. The 12.14 Foundation also plans to produce and release a CD of the production with Broadway Records (Matilda, Big Fish, Live at 54 Below album series). The same production team that presented Seussical last year at Newtown High School will return this summer: Michael Unger will direct, Jeffrey Saver will music direct with Newtown’s own Brett Boles as his associate, and Jennifer Paulson Lee will choreograph. Van Dean is co-producer and Dr. Michael Baroody, founder of the 12.14 Foundation, is the executive producer.
Performances will be Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., August 3 at 2 p.m., August 8 at 7 p.m., August 9th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and August 10th at 5 p.m. Rehearsals start June 23.
As was the case with “Seussical” there will be approximately 20 technical apprenticeships available for those who want to work backstage. The production will also have a student/parent orchestra.
The Foundation’s second show will be the regional premiere of “The 101 Dalmatians Musical” – the famed story by Dodie Smith, with a book by B.T. McNichol and a score by Dennis DeYoung (the lead singer/songwriter from the rock group Styx). It will be adapted specifically for Newtown. This production will be designed by Newtown High School students, under the supervision of our professional designers.
Performances are scheduled for August 6 at 7 p.m., August 7, August 8 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 10 at noon. Rehearsals start July 7, although some of the younger children in the show can start as late as July 30th. Previous musical experience is NOT NECESSARY for the Dalmatian chorus. So come and audition!
