NEW MILFORD – Police have evacuated the Big Y Plaza and other locations on Route 7 after what was described as a possible live 60mm mortar round was found at Litchfield County Pickers at 7 Kent Road Wednesday afternoon.
The business, owned by Merton Larmore, cleans out estates and properties.
Police have established a staging area at the former Southworth’s auto dealership.
The road is closed between Bridge Street and Fort Hill Road, and a state police bomb squad has responded. Peagler Road, adjacent to Big Y, is also closed.
Militaries use 60 mm mortars for close-in fire support.

NEW MILFORD – Route 7 was closed in both directions north of Veterans Bridge after an old mortar round was found at 7 Kent Road. A state police bomb squad is on the scene. The road is closed between bridge Street and Fort Hill Road.
