Geri Rodda, a nurse with the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association, has been honored by the state Department of Public Health R.N. as a Childhood Immunization Champion in recognition of her work promoting childhood immunization in Connecticut.
“For almost 15 years, Geri has been an innovator and leader in the promotion of childhood immunizations in our state,” said health department Commissioner Dr. Jewel Mullen in a press statement . “Every child has the right to be fully immunized, and Geri exemplifies the many dedicated health professionals across Connecticut who work hard to ensure that all children receive life-saving vaccinations when they need them.”
Rodda is the coordinator of the New Milford VNA Well Child Clinic and has served as a nurse consultant to area child care centers . To encourage parents to vaccinate their children, Rodda wrote two children’s books – The Flu and You and Vaccines for Maxine . Many state health departments now use Rodda’s books to educate their communities.
