Exit 10 eyesore in Newtown demolished

|

The demolition of an old, vacant gas station right off Exit 10 in Newtown is one step toward improving the commercial corridor, and entrance to the center of town.

Newtown Director of Planning and Land Use George Benson has worked for a couple of years to figure out how to get rid of this eyesore, and in March the one acre property on Church Hill Road was approved for a new gas station, Wheels, with an adjoining convenience store. This is all part of a general redevelopment of that area as a springboard to the economic development efforts town leaders have planned in town.

Part of the work in this area will include a state redesign of the intersection off the Interstate 84 highway in 2016.
