DANBURY — Police on Wednesday charged a 21-year-old Danbury man with negligent homicide and reckless driving as the result of an investigation into a fatal, two-vehicle accident nearly a year ago,
Luis Martins, of Elm Street, was driving the car that slammed into a commercial pickup truck on Federal Road on June 8, 2013, causing the death of one of his three passengers, Lindsey Beale, 23, of New Fairfield, and injuring the other two, police said.
The accident has spawned a number of lawsuits that are now pending in state Superior Court, all of them naming Luis and Jorge Martins, Danbury Fair Hyundai, the registered owner of the car, and the owner and the driver of the pickup truck as defendants.
Jorge Martins had purchased the 2013 Hyundai Veloster he was driving from the Danbury Fair Hyundai, but for some reason, the registration and title had not yet been transferred into his name, according to Joel Faxon, the New Haven attorney representing Nancy Beale, the mother of the dead woman and the administrator of her daughter’s estate.
Luis Martins was operating the car with Jorge Martins permission, according to court papers.
