The 31-year-old Chu, who hails from Fairfield, Conn., was nominated by her teammates to carry her nation’s flag during Sunday’s event in Sochi.
The honor is another in a long list of achievements for Chu, who has not only medaled four times in the Olympics, but is the first Asian-American to play on the U.S. women’s hockey team and considered one of the greatest female hockey players in US history, according to Bleacher Report.
Chu and the U.S. women’s hockey team suffered a devastating loss in overtime to Canada Thursday, but will come home with silver medals.
