Campbell not returning

A minor football bombshell as I cover some golf:

Marcus Campbell, a junior from Bloomfield who was projected to start this season for the Huskies, will not play for the Huskies in 2009. He is not enrolled at the school for the fall semester.

Also, incoming freshman Mike Osiecki, a linebacker from Seymour, won’t enroll at UConn until January 2010. According to UConn Osiecki is recovering from surgery (the school didn’t say what the surgery was).

Another incoming freshman, quarterback Leon Kinnard, will also wait until January to enroll as he too recovers from surgery.

More notes from UConn:

– Redshirt freshman Brian Parker will be enrolled at UConn in the fall but will not be eligible to play football.

Nate Sherr, a redshirt freshman tailback, plans to transfer to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Majok pulls out

UConn freshman Ater Majok has removed his name from the NBA Draft, a move that doesn’t necessarily mean the 6-foot-10 forward will be playing for the Huskies in 2009-10.

The school announced the move in a one-sentence statement released Monday afternoon.

Although he won’t be selected by any NBA teams this year, Majok still could opt to play professional basketball instead of trying the college game. He is considering a move to Europe to play basketball there, and may not be in Storrs when the fall semester begins.

Majok has yet to play for the Huskies and will not be eligible to play until December when the first semester ends at UConn.

More info to come…

Football ticket info

Some ticket news from the UConn athletic department:

For the third consecutive season, the University of Connecticut will feature its “Top Of The Rent” football ticket program. “Top Of The Rent” is an affordable, discounted season ticket package priced at $120 for the six-game 2009 home slate at Rentschler Field _ $20 per game.

The seats for the “Top Of The Rent” are located in the upper rows of selected reserved seating sections of Rentschler Field. Tickets quantities in this program are limited so patrons are advised to act fast.

“We’re happy to once again offer this fan-friendly opportunity to take part in the Rentschler Field experience,” UConn Director of Athletics Jeffrey Hathaway said in a statement. “The Top Of The Rent program is an affordable season ticket option which has appealed to families and others looking to enjoy UConn football in the fall. We are grateful to our friends at the CBS Radio Group in Hartford for helping to make this program possible.”

Tickets may be purchased at UConnHuskies.com, the UConn Athletic Ticket Office in Storrs or by calling 1-877-AT-UCONN.

The Huskies’ first home game of the season is Saturday, Sept. 12 against North Carolina.

Welcome

OK, here we are on the new platform. Sorry if there’s been some confusion about the switch.

First on the agenda, I’ve got to fix that picture. Getting to work on that soon.

Second, we’ll get to some news. Should have an update on Ater Majok this afternoon. He’s likely pulling out of the draft but we’ll see what that means for UConn.
