UConn senior Desi Cullen was named a semifinalist for Ray Gay Award Friday, an honor given annually to the nation’s top punter.
Cullen, one of the Huskies’ captains, is averaging 43.8 yards per punt this season. Eighteen of his punts have been downed inside the 20.
The other semifinalists are Rob Long of Syracuse, Drew Butler of Georgia, Peter Caldwell of Utah State, Ryan Donahue of Iowa, Chas Henry of Florida, Jeff Locke of UCLA, Zoltan Mesko of Michigan, Johnny Hekker of Oregon State and Matt Reagan of Memphis.
The three finalists will be named Nov. 23, and the winner announced Dec. 10.
