Walker officially joins USA Select Team

UConn point guard Kemba Walker, as his college coach previously revealed, was named Thursday to USA Basketball’s Select Team. It’s a 20-player group that will practice against the 2010 National Team during its training camp in Las Vegas July 19-24.

Walker will be joined on the Select Team by Lavoy Allen (Temple), William Buford (Ohio State), LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor), Jimmer Fredette (BYU), Scotty Hopson (Tennessee), Scoop Jardine (Syracuse), JaJuan Johnson (Purdue), Jon Leuer (Wisconsin), Shelvin Mack (Butler), Marcus Morris (Kansas), Jacob Pullen (Kansas State), John Shurna (Northwestern), Kyle Singler (Duke), Chris Singleton (Florida State), Nolan Smith (Duke), Howard Thompkins (Georgia), Mike Tisdale (Illinois), Chris Wright (Dayton) and Tyler Zeller (North Carolina).

The co-head coaches of the team are Washington’s Lorenzo Romar and Villanova’s Jay Wright.

“The USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee is thrilled to be able to give some of the top older college players this opportunity to be involved with USA Basketball this summer. I want to thank Jerry (Colangelo) and Mike Krzyzewski for involving the college players,” Jim Boeheim, chair of the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee and an assistant coach with the USA National Team said in a statement. “These 20 players now have an opportunity to be involved with USA Basketball in a summer when they normally wouldn’t and they’ll get a chance to play against some great NBA players. It will help them improve and it will help our national team be better prepared for this summer’s World Championship.”
