A few notes from UConn coach Jim Calhoun’s Charity All-Star game Saturday night:
– The White Team of Ray Allen, Emeka Okafor, Caron Butler and company beat the Blue Team (Charlie Villanueva, Khalid El-Amin, Rudy Gay) 126-118.
Allen had 20 points and was the game’s MVP. Ed Nelson (yes, Ed Nelson) added 22 points and 10 rebounds for White.
Villanueva led all scorers with 26. El-Amin chipped in 16 points and 5 assists, while Gay (after not playing at all in the first half) almost pulled his team back with 18 points.
– Play of the game?
Well, it was either Jerome Dyson’s dunk over Kirk King…or Allen’s up-and-under, and-one move on Villanueva….or Gay’s between-the-legs high flying dunk.
While the answer is almost certainly C, the real play of the night came when Stanley Robinson air-balled a free throw. After it missed, Allen grabbed the ball and headed over the end line to in-bound the ball, teasing Robinson as if he didn’t even deserve a second free throw.
Eventually, the officials did let Sticks shoot again. He missed.

Not sure if you can read this box score too clearly (I know, it’s sideways…it’s late and I’m technically challenged). But Andy Prince and company did the book by hand, so they deserve some credit.

Hello Neill,
Which former assistants were there ? Was everyone there ?
(i.e. Tom Moore, Howie, Dave L., etc)
Who was there ? Thanks

Howie Dickenman and Tom Moore were the “head coaches” of the two sides.
I must admit I wasn’t paying too much attention to all of the assistants.
I know Karl Hobbs (and Scott Burrell, for that matter) was at a wedding and unable to attend.
I don’t remember seeing Dave Leitao. I believe he was a no-show as well.
Glen Miller, Andre LaFleur and Kevin Ollie were in the house, obviously.
