UConn kicker Dave Teggart, who kicked four field goals including the 52-yard game winner against South Florida Saturday, was named Big East special teams player of the week Monday.
A junior from Northborough, Mass., Teggart hit from 40, 22, 50 and 52 yards away, scoring 13 of the Huskies’ 19 points in their conference title-clinching victory.
The Huskies (8-4, 5-2), thanks in large part to Teggart’s kicks, are headed to the Fiesta Bowl to take on Oklahoma.
Also on Monday UConn linebacker Lawrence Wilson was named to the Big East’s weekly honor roll. He scored the Huskies’ lone touchdown in the USF game by virtue of his 55-yard interception return. Wilson also made five tackles and broke up a another pass.
Pittsburgh running back Dion Lewis was named offensive player of the week and fellow Panther J.T. Thomas was the defensive winner.
