Trinity Catholic basketball star Tevin Baskin will make a much-anticipated announcement of his college choice on Wednesday at noon at the school.
Baskin said Friday afternoon he has narrowed his decision down to four schools: Quinnipiac, Binghamton, New Orleans and Manhattan.
Baskin has visited each school except for Binghamton and was at Quinnipiac Wednesday night.
Baskin originally was going to reveal his choice Saturday, but decided he needed more time.
“I still have to talk over things with my family,” the 6-foot-6 center said. “I’ve basically been recruited by a lot of the conferences in the country. I’m planning not just for the next four years, but the next 40.”
With Baskin averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds, the Crusaders finished 24-2 last year. They lost to Stamford in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference final and to Bulkeley in the CIAC Class L quarterfinals.
Trinity was 92-12 during Baskin’s four years and appeared in four straight conference finals, winning the title in 2008.
One of Baskin’s best games was in the CIAC Class LL championship against Crosby his junior year. Baskin finished with 35 points and 12 rebounds as the Crusaders almost defeated the state’s top-ranked team before missing a shot at the buzzer and losing, 82-79.
Baskin said he is looking forward to putting the entire recruiting process behind him and moving forward.
“I’ll feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders,” he said.

According to several sources around town, Tevin should be playing wide receiver at a Big Time D 1 football school ……
Dave, Tevin should seriously consider Sacred Heart or Central. If it comes down to Manhatten or Quinnipiac I would choose The # Q # The facilities at Quinnipiac are second to none and the school is on the rise. He still has to go like heck to make an impact on those programs. All of these mid-majors are better than people think. Three years ago the coach at CEntral, Howie Dickerman, said he has no chance of getting Baskin because he felt tevins talent warranted a top-flight division one school, yet would love to have him on his team. What happened? I think Tevins stock went down his senior year though I know he can turn it around and make believers of these schools.
I’m surprised Tevin’s not thinking about a top prep school. An additional year on the court, and in the classroom may be the best thing he could do. He’s a great kid. I wish him well.
To the best of my knowledge none of the local schools have recruited him. But I wouldn’t read a lot into that: in my opinion a lot of the schools in the area do a poor job of going after homegrown talent. And a lot of athletes don’t want to play close to home. There are few instances where you get that perfect fit, as happened with Amanda Pape and Sacred Heart.
I’m not exactly sure what the schools on Tevin’s final list have in mind; I have been staying on top of this and yesterday was the first time I heard Binghamton mentioned.
Dave:
The set of programs currently recruiting Baskin seems to be different than the set of programs recruiting him this time last year. Is there a particular reason? These programs would likely recruit him for positions 4-5 rather than 3-4. Did Fairfield, Sacred Heart, or Iona show any interest? They would seem to be on a similar level to the programs of current interest. Any thoughts?
