It appears private schools are never included in anything! Your exclusionary methods only target “Fairfield County Schools” and NOT Fairfield County Athletes. You should at least change the name of the award to reflect your practices. I know many dedicated, talented students who attend private or boarding schools, because the combination of academics and athletics is far more rigorous than that of the public schools. I would also like to add, parents have no voice in these schools’ athletic departments, and the students learn to advocate for themselves. So, if you are not willing to take the time to look at all these athletes, change the award. That’s full disclosure.
Why cut things off at all ? It will increase the exposure for the Blog and for Blue Streak who is sponsoring this award. I think you can make it a Fairfield County award. Thus if a player from King School scores 40 points in back to back games and their team dominates they wouldn’t be overlooked.
By the way Dave, I don’t have any agenda as I don’t have kids but I do feel that this would be fair to your local readership.
Most likely those schools that you don’t cover won’t participate anyway so why limit this nice award to just FCIAC student-athletes.
Just my opine. Have a Happy and Healthy 2010 !!

It would have been easier to include private schools if this was an area award, but since it is regional where do you cut things off? There are private schools all over the county, playing in different leagues against all sorts of competition. We basically cover the entire FCIAC and private schools like King and St. Luke’s in the immediate area. There are private schools in the Bridgeport and Danbury areas that we do nothing with. As much as we would prefer not to exclude anyone, I think the people and I at BlueStreak agreed an FCIAC award was more in line with what we wanted to do and more importantly much easier to implement. This is by no means a knock at the private schools and I hope it won’t be interpreted that way.
Dave,
Terri Sells makes a great point here. This should be The Blue Streak-Overtime Player of the Week. Unless the FCIAC is sponsoring this award then I would have to agree with the previous writer.

Why are we limiting a Player of the week award to just FCIAC? There are many talented players that attend private schools that are not affililated with FCIAC. These players warrant exposure from the amount of coverage the Hearst Newspapers provide.
