There is little secret behind the success of the New Canaan High School football team this fall. The Rams’ explosive passing game out of the spread offense has accounted for 33 points a game, a major reason behind the team’s 9-1 mark.
Quarterback Turner Baty has a strong contingent of receivers. Leading the way is senior Cody Newton, who has 54 catches for 960 yards and eight touchdowns.
Newton and the other seniors on the team will set out to try and capture their fourth straight state title tonight when the top-seeded Rams host No. 4 St. Paul in a CIAC Class MM semifinal game.
I caught up with Newton to discuss tonight’s game, what the Rams have to do to regain their sharpness and about the difficult sartorial choices always facing the team.
