The official announcement will not be made for a couple of weeks, but I learned last night the six players who were selected to the All-FCIAC Boys Basketball Team.
They are: Mark Ellis of Stamford, Remy Pinson of Trinity Catholic, Greg Langston of St. Joseph, Willie Gray of Harding, Jerome Parkins of Bridgeport Central and Evan Kelley of Norwalk.
Barry McLeod, who led Central to its first league championship, was selected as Coach of the Year.
The voting figured to be interesting this year in that, after talking to coaches, Langston, Parkins and Kelley were considered the three locks, with a pool of about six players in the hunt for the last three spots. Three of them — Doug DelBene of Ridgefield, Timajh Parker of St. Joseph and Jerry Washington of Central — I’m told were second team picks.

Doug DelBene of Ridgefield? Maybe 3rd team. Victoria (Central) Colmen (Trumbull) Aussie (St. Joes) Alzulphar (Greenwich)
Timajh Parker of St. Joseph and Jerry Washington of Central should be locks for 2nd team. I think that DelBene even being considered for 1st team is a joke….No knock on the kid but I just feel there are more kids deserving….

Almost every person you mentioned was on the first and second team bubbles. This was a year with more good and few great players. You could debate this a lot. I think the three players I mentioned were the lone locks based on talking to coaches the last few weeks.

Any word on where any of these area kids will be going to college next year? Of the seniors, I would think Ellis has the most upside at 6’6. If he could add some pounds and 10-15 ft jumper to his game he could surprise some folks at the next level. Everyone else I would think could play a mid D2 or D3 and there is nothing wrong with that.

Lots of good players in the league, I think they got it right with the 6 they chose.

Wow! I was wrong with my prediction that Trinity would beat Bloomfield. I guess our league isn’t as strong as it use to be and Bloomfield is stronger than I thought.

The point guard from Central deserves recognition on 1st team..I’d go to battle with him over any of the other 1st teamers…Tough as nails, Floor General, solid offensive player…I’m sure Barry Mcleod would agree.

Why Coleman on the first team? He’s not even the best player on his team, the point guard Sanders is. Also, Pinson does not deserve to be first team this season.

I strongly believe that perkins was a great player.in my opinion. Chris Colon was the floor manager which led his team to victory on numerous nights during the season. he is probably the most underrated player in the FCIAC. He did an outstanding job leading central to a state title. congratulations to the central hilltoppers state champions.

I have to agree with Norm and Robert about Chris Colon of Central. Even though he did not have his best game (offensive, in the championship) he was there floor leader this year. He played great def, pushed the ball up the floor and made his team better. I think without his leadership this year, Central may have come up short. Great job to the Hilltoppers and Coach Barry M. You brought another State title to Central and to the city of Bpt.
