Ellis Headed To American International

I just got an instant message from Mark Ellis, the Stamford High School center, who gave a verbal commitment today to play next year at American International College.

That means four players from the 2008-09 Black Knights basketball team will be playing in college next year. Chris Evans, who prepped this year at The Taft School, is headed to Sacred Heart University, while Marc Guirand will be attending Connecticut College. Jethro Anilus is still undecided but will also be playing.

There is a backstory here that I hope to get to later in the week.

By the way, it should be noted in the IM Ellis thanked me for all the coverage he got during his high school career.

It is worth noting because that act doesn’t happen that often and is a testament to the type of person Ellis is.

  1. Dave Great point about Mark Ellis giving you your due props. I think what people in the area don’t realize is how fortunate they are to have YOU covering them. Your stories are an inspiration for youngsters to get themselves in the paper and that little boost of good public relations they need to help get them where they want to go. Kudos to you and the paper for doing this !

  2. Thanks Full. Just doing my job, though writing about student athletes is fun, not work. Still, it is nice when they show their appreciation. And Mark has always been a class act.

  4. The Giants are the only team I live and die with in sports, so I certainly hope it is not true (I would hope it’s not true for anyone, let me qualify that). If it is, I think it’s disgusting and he should be locked up for a long time.
