New Canaan Still Alive For Spot In FCIAC Championship Game

|

Lou Marinelli was stunned a few minutes ago, when while teaching a gym class I called to tell him his New Canaan football team is still alive to qualify for the FCIAC championship game. The Rams would still need Norwalk to upset Darien — a long shot at best — but the scenario he would need if that happened could very easily play out, as Darien’s easy schedule may come back to haunt it.

The credit for all this goes to Hearst Connecticut Newspapers online sports producer Sean Patrick Bowley, who does a good job of explaining all the possibilities. Rather than rehash them, click here to go to his blog.

What is uncertain right now is how a possible tie between New Canaan and Darien would be settled: the teams don’t meet until Thanksgiving, six days AFTER the FCIAC title game.

Marinelli is the head of the football committee and was uncertain of how the tiebreaker would work, though he is in the process of looking it up and will get back to me.

As soon as we know something Sean and I will get you updated.
