Dear NC stand for New Canaan:

If you read comment # 16 carefully you will see it says ” there should be NO comparisons to the boy’s program, that in it’s own right is one the elite programs in the state “… Must of missed that, eh!!

  2. NC stand for New Canaan! says:

What george meant to say was that the NC boys hockey team dominated the headlines all winter. The fact that they weren’t even considered was just a bit shocking…and I hope it’s not because they didn’t win states. Furthermore, NChockeyparent and Ram Fan, please don’t start comparing boys hockey to girls hockey. Yes the girls are very accomplished, but it’s all relative. As competitive as CT boys hockey is, going 25-0 is the equivalent of finding a four leaf clover: next to impossible. All in all, NC fans should be proud at how successful NC boys and girls hockey has been this past decade.

  3. NC Ram says:

ram fan – please help lift me from my ignorance. how many on the nc girls TEAM play for a tier one club team? i may be misinformed in thinking the number is two.

  4. Dave Ruden says:

I started it because I could have a possible conflict in the morning that would delay the start, contacted one person on each team and otherwise I’m not publicizing it until tomorrow.

  5. fastfingers says:

starting a little early, are we now? let the clicking begin and may the fastest mouse win.

  6. track rocks says:

    go danbury!!!!!!

  7. Terry says:

Only 18 teams for girls hockey. It surely is much harder to win the state title in boys hockey. There are 21 teams.

  8. Ram Fever says:

George, ah a traditionalist, who believes the sport comes in two varieties — hockey and girls hockey. Look up troglodyte when you’re pawing through the book with all of the big words.

  9. Ram Fan says:

Is it possible to keep the players initials and names out of any arguements presented on this page. This, if I am not mistaken, is a TEAM award. As good as some of the girls are on the NC Girls Ice Hockey Team, it was, in fact, the TEAM that has won back-to-back State Championships ( 5 titles in the 6 years there has been a State Tournament and they have been in every final ) and back-to-back FCIAC Championships ( 5 in the 8 years that there has been an FCIAC Title Game and they have been in 7 of the 8 finals). They also won 3 FCIAC Titles ( 2005,06 and 06 )and 3 State titles in a row ( 2006,07 and 08 ). These girls have truly established themselves in the 8 years since league play began. There should be NO comparisons to the boys team, that is in it’s own right, one of the elite programs in the state. There is no animosity between the two. Just go to a boys game and see how many girls are in the stands wearing their jerseys! They are very supportive of each other. It seems to always be the adults that have an issue !!

To NC Ram: Please do not be ignorant enough to not include Jana Persky or Bea Eppler in your arguement. Persky is one of the smartest players, boy or girl, I’ve seen and Epller is as tough as they come !!!!

  10. Dave Ruden says:

I can’t wait until this contest extends beyond the New Canaan borders Sunday morning. Never expected we’d have a pre-vote civil war!

  11. NC Ram says:

Certainly Hompe and Carroll. Three might be getting a little carried away.

  12. NC Fan says:

    George,
What a petulant child you must be. (You can try Webster’s Dictionary if that’s too big a word for you). New Canaan can do better than you.
Terrible comments…your Mom should spank you.

  13. NCHockeyparent says:

    It is JP, not JS.

  14. NCHockeyparent says:

For the record, the three best varisty hockey players–who know how to play the game of hockey–are not on the boys team—JS, OH, and MC.

  15. NC Hockey says:

George, you are an utter embarrassment to be representing New Canaan. Yes the boys had a good season, and I completely support their accomplishments just like you should for the girls. Their program has only been around for the last 10 years or so and you expect the caliber of play to be the same? The girls team has pure talent on the team and deserve this little credit they are being given. Also if I am not mistaken didn’t the girls win fciacs AND states? Unlike the boys…

  16. Hockeyparent says:

I too am ashamed of the remark you reference, but please don’t let one classless and clueless entry into the comments section cast a disparaging view of the NC boys hockey team – these were great kids, who almost pulled off a perfect season. Ignorant remarks like the ones sent that degraded the girls team were just that – ignorant. It takes all kinds I guess. The girls team won back to back State titles – and have some of the best pure skaters in the northeastern United States. Congratulations to both teams on spectacular seasons.

  17. Sparky says:

George, check your facts. There are 18 public school girl’s ice hockey teams in the state and that is not counting Stamford girl’s hockey which will be a varsity team next year.

  18. Dave Ruden says:

    Well said ladies.

  19. NC Girls Hockey says:

As a member of the NC girls hockey team I am ashamed of the fact that someone from my own town wouldn’t take pride in the hard work that we have put into this season and our accomplishments. I would think that any member of the New Canaan hockey community would support both boys and girls teams.

  20. NCGH says:

  21. Curious says:

Well said Dave. Teams making their case on the back of great regular season records generally aren’t the center of post-season chatter. Despite apparent difficulty skating, it would appear the New Canaan girls team has more future D-1 college players than the boys team.

  22. Full says:

My vote is for St. Josephs …Winning the FCIAC Regular Season and then winning the Class LL Tournament with close to 10 000 people at the Sun Arena is a great accomplishment, only slightly ahead of the TCHS team’s overachievement. Good luck to all the contestants !

  23. Dave Ruden says:

Let me get this straight: you really feel the way to present your case is by disparaging a high school girls team? The New Canaan boys hockey team does deserve to be here. There is one problem: if I have more than one team from any school, they will cancel each other out in the voting and have no chance to win. The New Canaan boys track team can also make a case. There were multiple candidates from Danbury High School. We had to make hard choices. I spoke to both New Canaan hockey coaches who were understanding of the process. In the end, I went with the team that won both league and state titles. I wish there was a way to include them both. I also wish you had chosen not to include your final sentence, which detracts from your point.

  24. george says:

Let me get this straight, NC Boys hockey who goes 25-1, wins 25 games in a row, beats darien, hamden and st.joe’s in a 4-day stretch after losing their captain and 1st line skater—–and they aren’t 1 of your 7 teams? NC Girls Hockey, for god’s sake, what are there, 16 girls teams in the state, 90% of which can’t skate??
