After a long list of memorable achievements and championships over the last three months, it is time for you to decide who was the very best of the best. We have picked seven outstanding finalists for our final award of the season: the Overtime FCIAC Winter Team of the Year.
The vote will run until Thursday at noon, and the winning team will receive a plaque and T-shirts in school colors, courtesy of BlueStreak Sports Training, Garden Catering and The Stamford Advocate.
Here are the seven finalists:
DANBURY BOYS TRACK TEAM: The Hatters ran a clean sweep through the postseason, winning the FCIAC, CIAC Class LL and State Open championships.
GREENWICH BOYS SWIMMING TEAM: After an 11-1 dual meet season, the Cardinals swept to the FCIAC, Class LL and State Open championships.
NEW CANAAN GIRLS HOCKEY: The Rams finished with a 24-1 record and won FCIAC and state championships. They set a state record for goals in a season (157).
ST. JOSEPH BOYS BASKETBALL: The Cadets finished 23-2 and, after being upset in the first round of the FCIAC Tournament, rebounded to win the Class LL championship.
TRINITY CATHOLIC BOYS BASKETBALL: The Crusaders finished 18-9 and, after losing in the semifinals of the FCIAC Tournament, as the No. 18 seed rebounded to win the Class M title.
TRUMBULL GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Eagles finished 23-2 and rolled through the FCIAC, winning 22 games without a loss to capture the league title. Trumbull lost in the Class LL quarterfinals.
WILTON GYMNASTICS: The Warriors won their first FCIAC title since 1997, finishing with 133.75 points to edge second-place Darien (132.80 points). Wilton finished in fifth place in the Class M championships.

With a population of 79,000 Danbury has quite a few more local voters to tap before moving to NY and NJ. However, New Canaan at 19,000 may well be forced to look outside its borders.
It’s still worth voting to show support for any of the teams here regardless.
Wow it’s not even worth voting – my daughter (who plays for Trumbull) was right. I guess having a perfect season when NO ONE predicted a modicum of success, winning the FCIAC regular season, winning the FCIAC tournament, and making it all the way to the quarterfinals of states & losing by a small margin in the 4th Q — I guess that’s not enough. With more thank 14,000 votes apiece, sounds like New Canaan and Danbury had every parent in the school and their co-workers all over the tri-state area voting, holy smokes. Not even worth voting when you see that. Wow. Congrats to everyone.
The Trumbull High Girls Basketball team had a remarkable season. As a Fairfield County team they went up against the powerhouses in up state and were ranked in the top 10 with them. They’re not a program that wins a state championship every year like some of these schools and its ony their second FCIAC Championship in school history. Their imporvement from last year to this year should certainly be recognized, especially with 7 seniors leaving the program.
New Canaan Girls Hockey is my vote. Rich Bulan, Scott Craig, & Mike Labrosciano, the best three coaches in the State, and 20 or so amazing talented women. A pleasure following them all year long and they deserve all the accolades! A true meaning of the word TEAM: NC Girls Hockey. Congrats on another stellar season!
Yale could’ve used Hompe this past weekend! Go NC!
As a Trumbull supporter, I have to say what a GREAT race between Danbury and New Canaan! Considering Trumbull isnt gonna sniff this victory, New Canaan, you have my vote! Great season and that Hompe is some player! Good luck.
This is looking pretty hopeless for everyone except Danbury and New Canaan.
