And then there were three. With two schools having to drop out, our FCIAC Fan Showdown is now down to three schools: Westhill’s Purple Pack, Ridgefield’s Tigers Lair and St. Joseph’s Howell’s Hood Bomb Squad.
And here we present the second entry: the Tigers Lair.
Here is how the contest will work:
Each fan base has shot a video of their fans at a basketball game (St. Joseph chose its recent home game with Ridgefield, Westhill its girls Senior Night game with Norwalk and Ridgefield a home game against Fairfield Warde. We asked that each video provide a good reflection of the size of the crowd and the cleverness of cheers. We are running each video on the blog. We will have a fan vote for fun, and then three of our sponsors — Matt Cole from BlueStreak Sports Training, Leo Karl from Karl Chevrolet and Ron Rosenfeld from New Balance in New Canaan — will select the winner next week (we hope to have the St. Joseph video on Monday).
The winning fans will get $500 for their athletic department from our sponsors: Garden Catering, BlueStreak Sports Training, Karl Chevrolet, Innovative Health & Rehabilitation, Varsityletterframes.com and New Balance of New Canaan. The second place team will get $200.
In addition, each school was asked to submit a photo of its best fan. The winner will get a framed school varsity letter from Varsityletterframes.com.
Ridgefield has its two fans at the end of the video, Ian Word and Mike Tarantino.
So take a look below at a typical raucous Lair section and let us know what you think.

Well.. heres are excuse:
its not our fault st joes’ school can only afford to have enough seating for 13 people in their gym. its also not our fault carl charles wears a toupee, and its not our fault that vito montelli cant get off the bench and shake a players hand. Plus.. its a simple question; can the game be moved or not.. and the CIAC said yes. that must be our fault too?
Here we go again…Ridgefield Brats want to move game vs St. Joes to neutral site. Boo-hoo. These entitled parents, coaches, and students are used to getting everything they want. This is no different. Seems SJ earned the home game to me. Can’t wait for the Ridgefield Spoiled Brats to serenade us w their excuses and reasons why they want game moved.
I had the opportunity to see he PURPLE PACK against Prep. They were very quiet the whole night. Even when they were leading in the third quarter.
You’re all missing the point of this exercise. It’s not about win or lose. It’s about team spirit and cheering your team regardless. Doh!
A loss is a loss buddy
Dear Sj Fan,
I mean, i cant exactly speak for “another lair” but Im assuming he was most likely referring to the fact that st.joes lost in the first round, and ridgefield won. Then again, I’m not EXACTLY sure thats what he meant. Just a guess…
Another Lair,
Wait……….what were you saying about being left in FCIAC’s?
Sj fan,
Wait….Aren’t we the only ones left if FCIACs?
Wait, didnt we beat you both when we played you?
Well the Purple Pack was called the Cameron Crazies of the FCIAC on MSG Varsity because of our passion and intensity so watch yourself St. Joes. No ones chants are original, with the exception of chants designed towards specific players, everyone borrows them from top tier college schools. Where were you guys in the vote? And why is it that it takes you 7 years to upload a video? And abandon your team in the first round of FCIACs every year? You bleed marron and gold? #HailSJ? More like #sandwich, way to borrow our we bleed purple and ridgefield’s #HailRidgefield
frank—ridgefield was completely original in creating i believe that you will lose. changed 2 words. give me a break
I completely agree…you guys have absolutely the loudest fan section….OF PARENTS…your parents are the most obnoxious people in your gym..Student section however, not so great…
Don’t get to cocky ridgefield. I agree the Purple Pack is a PATHETIC excuse for a fan section but we still haven’t put our video up yet. We are so much louder and have much more original chants than you. An MSG Varsity announcer referred to us as the “Montelli Crazies” (Cameron crazies are Duke’s fans) because of our passion and intensity. We only have about 800 students so the amount that come out and support our sports teams shows what real school spirit is. We bleed maroon and gold. #HailSJ
There are two facts that nobody can argue against, in order to have a great student section you need to 1) have a lot of fans and 2) you need to be loud… CLEARLY, The Lair wins in both of these circumstances. You can argue video quality all you want, but those 2 factors should mean the most no matter what.
The Ridgefield Tigers Lair is clearly the best fan section in the FCIAC. They have so many original chants that they couldn’t even fit them all into one succinct video. It’s not possible to get a true insight into the superiority of the Lair unless you witness it in person. Even Ruden will tell you- the Tiger’s Lair is unmatched. #Longlivethelair #hailridgefield
Dear fciac fan,
You’re right, new Canaan has created all of these chants. Even though they’re all nationally recognized chants… New cannan, ct was the town that created them all.. That sounds about right. Wait just kidding your comment couldn’t have made any less sense.
too FCIAC FAN- 1) if new canaan was better…theyd be in this competition. 2) New Canaan created 0 of these chants, some very famous D1 colleges to these, therefore most high schools. “I believe that you will lose”- completely original. and “Hail Ridgefield” has been at Ridgefield forever
Ridgefield’s video is simple a too the point…shows how passionate they are, the SIZE of their fan section (which is about 4 times the size of westhill) and extremely loud. Yeah, video quality isnt the best, but who cares. Tiger’s Lair is the easy choice
Jeff,
You r wrong there are stands on both sides of the gym in ridgefield.
wow these chants are incredibly unoriginal. I was at the New Canaan Ridgefield hockey game at Ridgefield and not only was new canaan a much better student section, but they also created most of these chants, ridgefield just took them.
Looks like the video was shot on an old cell phone, but it does show the passion of the Tigers Lair. As I recall, there are only stands on one side of the gym, which I would think makes for an interesting dynamic at big games.
