And then there were three. With two schools having to drop out, our FCIAC Fan Showdown is now down to three schools: Westhill’s Purple Pack, Ridgefield’s Tigers Lair and St. Joseph’s Howell’s Hood Bomb Squad.
And here we present the third and final entry: Howell’s Hood Bomb Squad.
Here is how the contest will work:
Each fan base has shot a video of their fans at a basketball game (St. Joseph chose its recent home game with Ridgefield, Westhill its girls Senior Night game with Norwalk and Ridgefield a home game against Fairfield Warde. We asked that each video provide a good reflection of the size of the crowd and the cleverness of cheers. We are running each video on the blog and then three of our sponsors — Matt Cole from BlueStreak Sports Training, Leo Karl from Karl Chevrolet and Ron Rosenfeld from New Balance in New Canaan — will select the winner, which will be announced here on Friday.
The winning fans will get $500 for their athletic department from our sponsors: Garden Catering, BlueStreak Sports Training, Karl Chevrolet, Innovative Health & Rehabilitation, Varsityletterframes.com and New Balance of New Canaan. The second place team will get $200.
In addition, each school was asked to submit a photo of its best fan. The winner will get a framed school varsity letter from Varsityletterframes.com.
So take a look below at a boisterous Bomb Squad section and let us know what you think.

PURPLE PACK!!! Looks like you can’t recruit video talent
Can’t wait til SJ wins this competition, and states.
To all of the Ridgefield students. You guys are taking this a little to far with the whole “everyone but us sucks” mentality. It’s just a friendly competition there’s no need to get hostile over it
What do you mean coolant coordinate a color…from what I saw you guys didnt really match either. Also, only your first 4 rows were cheering, that’s not school spirt. It’s ok to be jealous that were better thanyou
i wish our video wasnt shot by a piece of crap. but still its clear we have the loudest and most dedicated fans. im not just talking about bball either. where was st joes tonight??? terry conners was not the same without them. great turnout by the lair as we watched our puck team stomp you 6-0.
i like how they video taped closer to make it seem like they were louder, what a cute little tactic! we video taped from across the gym and we were 4x as loud.. but gosh, what i would do for a section of parents that st. joes has. hands down the best parent section in the state. student section.. not so much
This video was so much better than Ridgefield’s. But not even close to the creativity, originality, video editing, sound mixing, costume design, or spirit of the Purple Pack.
and…listen to the back-round from about 1:15…pure Lair booing. What i like to hear
Definitely better than Westhill, by a long shot. But a few things to consider, the lair was there about half way through the JV game, we had a small crowd there at that point (you guys had no one at that point) and with about 20 of us yelling it sounded like 50 because your gym is so small. 2, your parents are the most obnoxious parents i have ever seen, not saying its a bad thing, but you guys just seem louder because of it. 3, you guys COULDNT EVEN COORDINATE A COLOR FOR EVERYONE TO BE IN….BASICS OF A STUDENT SECTION. I wasnt very impressed by your student section for all the hype to be honest…
The environment in the SJ gym that night was UNREAL !! Can you imagine if Ridgefield & SJ WIN their 1st two games in states, they will play against each other in the quarterfinal round at SJ again !! Oh myyyyy, that will be another DOOZY of a game I am sure !!
St. Joe’s student cheering was the best — they blew the doors off with school spirit and support for their team. And since this was done at their last home game, 7 days is hardly 5 weeks. Someone needs to go back to math class. And by the way, that slow motion is truly awesome and inspired! Shows real emotion. Go St. Joe’s!
st joes student section is terrible. Plus it took them like 5 weeks to edit this and send it in, and what did they do? You put some people yelling in slow motion- sick.
also…someone at sj please tell me what is being said ffrom 2:00 on. no one can understand it
not a bad video, and definitely louder and bigger than the purple pack (lol) but i dunno. i was at that game and they werent really loud and their chants were weak if you ask me
