Family issues statement on Marcus Dixon

by:

The McInerney family, which legally adopted Marcus Dixon, just sent me the following statement they wanted to share:

The community mourns the loss of their son, Marcus Dixon McInerney.

He was a light to all who knew him, a bridge bringing people from different groups and beliefs together, and a guardian angel to those in need.

The Stamford family will miss the running back that loved his coaches and teammates with the passion that attracted the attention of West Point Military Academy. Marcus played Army Football, but continued to embrace his love for Stamford High and its teachers. As an ode to the extraordinary person that he was, rallying a town to see the potential that exists in every young man, the school has honored him by retiring his jersey. There are no words to express the sadness felt by his family and friends, who will miss the joy, love and passion that Marcus infused in each of them. We love you Marcus and thank you for sharing yourself so freely and abundantly. You will continue to live in our hearts and the memories we cherish, forever.

Barry, Rose, Erin, Kelly and Lauren
