Kirsten Eriksen, a member of the Westhill High School girls soccer team that won the state championship in 2009 and lost in the final in 2010, was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Eriksen is a sophomore on the American University team.
From a press release by the conference:
Eriksen had a strong pair of matches for the Eagles last weekend to lead them to their first two shutouts of the season. In Friday’s 1-0 victory over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, she played an important role in limiting the Lehigh defense to just four shots on goal and 12 shots overall.
The Stamford native returned on Sunday to help the team to its second straight Patriot League win, the first time an American squad has earned back-to-back conference victories since 2009. She helped the defense hold Lafayette to two shots on goal and just five shots in the match. She also helped the defensive unit as it allowed only two corner kicks by Lafayette.
American will take on Bucknell on Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m. as it looks to make it three straight. The Eagles return to Reeves Field on Saturday, October 27 at 1 p.m. against Colgate.
