Jake Pelletier of the St. Joseph football team and Maddie Rusch of the New Canaan girls swimming team have been voted as the BlueStreak-Overtime FCIAC Fall Players of the Year.
Pelletier and Rusch will each receive trophies from BlueStreak Sports Training and the Stamford Advocate.
Pelletier set school records with 48 receptions for 907 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushed for three touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and threw one scoring pass, while kicking 54 extra points as the Cadets reached the Class M quarterfinals. He held off a strong field that included Greenwich’s Pieter Zenner, Norwalk’s Andrew Melitsanopoulos, Trinity Catholic’s Shaquan Howise, Westhill’s Davell Cotterell and Staples’ Henry Wynne.
Rusch broke her previous record in becoming the first person to win the 50 free at the FCIAC Championships four straight years. Rusch won the 50 free, 100 butterfly and was part of two winning relays at the CIAC Class L meet; and the 50 free, was part of two winning relays and took second in the 100 butterfly at the State Open meet. She set three individual school records and was part of three relays that set school records. She defeated a talented field that included Darien’s Kat Huber, Westhill’s Rachel Burston, St. Joseph’s Sabrina Toole, Wilton’s Madison Hendry and Fairfield Ludlowe’s Emily Nelson.
The final votes for the fall, for the BlueStreak-Overtime Coach and Team of the Year, will begin on Sunday.
