Darien girls swimming, Trifone voted Overtime Fall Team, Coach of the Year

The Darien girls swimming team has been voted the Overtime FCIAC Fall Team of the Year, and its coach, Marj Trifone, the BlueStreak-Overtime Coach of the Year.

The Blue Wave will receive custom-made T-shirts courtesy of BlueStreak Sports Training, Garden Catering, the Stamford Advocate, Karl Chevrolet, Innovative Health and Rehabilitation, New Balance of New Canaan, Riko’s Pizza, Mitchells/Richards, Bobby Valentine’s Sports Gallery Cafe, Voice of an Angel and Dr. Brown’s Baby Products.

Trifone will receive a trophy from BlueStreak Sports Training and the Stamford Advocate.

Darien, led by Trifone, had a clean sweep this season, winning the FCIAC, Class L and their first-ever State Open title.

The Blue Wave defeated a field that included the Norwalk boys soccer, Ridgefield girls cross country, Staples football and Wilton field hockey teams.

Trifone defeated a field that included Stamford’s Mario Caminiti, Wilton’s Deirde Hynes, Norwalk’s Chris Laughton, Staples’ Marce Petroccio, Fairfield Ludlowe’s Meghan Skelton and Trinity Catholic’s Pete Stokes.

This week we will resume the regular Overtime Team of the Week and BlueStreak-Overtime Player of the Week awards. The first Team of the Week vote of the winter starts Sunday. The Player of the Week award winners will be announced on Tuesday.
