Ridgefield wins Overtime Fan Showdown; Stamford takes 2nd

|

Ridgefield's Tiger's Lair is this year's Overtime Fan Showdown winner.

In an extremely close contest, Ridgefield High School’s Tiger’s Lair is the winner of the 2nd annual Overtime Fan Showdown. Ridgefield finished with 6 points, one more than Stamford’s Black Knight Nation, which finished second with 5.

The Ridgefield athletic department will receive $500, while Stamford’s will receive $100.

Westhill’s Purple Pack and St. Joseph’s Khalil’s Kingdom, which finished in a three-way tie with Ridgefield in the video portion of the competition, tied for third place with 3 points.

In the voting portion of the competition, Stamford took first place and received 5 points, Ridgefield was second and had 3 and Norwalk was third and had 1 point.

In this week’s video competition, Westhill and St. Joseph each received one first and one second place vote from our three judges, while Ridgefield earned one first place vote and two third place votes (Greenwich’s Cardinal Crazies received a second place vote and Stamford a third place vote). That put Westhill, St. Joseph and Ridgefield in a three-way tie. They split the 9 total points and received 3 apiece, which lifted Ridgefield ahead of Stamford for the title.

I want to thank all nine schools that participated and the three sponsors who served as judges. The quality of all the videos by the 5 schools that participated in that portion of the competition were fantastic and all involved should be applauded.

Finally, this is just the second year of the event and we are still looking at some fine-tuning to keep it fun and make it fair. There are two new aspects that will be changed next year. First, all the schools will be allowed to make videos as long as they want up to 5 minutes. Second, there is going to be a third component added to the competition. We will poll FCIAC coaches in the winter and ask them which opposing fans they think are the best. We will award points to the top three finishers.

If you have any other ideas how to make the Fan Showdown better, please send them along. We will consider everything.

We look forward to doing this again next year.

That picture is from when the Lair traveled to Trinity and had more fans than the home team, showing superior dedication. Hail to the Lair.
