As had long been rumored, Fairfield Ludlowe athletic director Dave Schulz announced on Wednesday afternoon that Vinnie Camera has been hired as the new football coach.
“Vinnie was the standout candidate in the interview process and we are looking forward to him joining our staff at Fairfield Ludlowe,” Schulz said in an e-mailed statement.
Camera started the football program at Platt Tech in 2007 and has been its head coach ever since. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Fairfield Prep prior to moving on to Platt Tech.
A graduate of East Haven HS, he was a three-year letter winner playing football for Fairfield University, where he earned his degree in 2001.
Camera takes over for Matt McCloskey, who coached the team for five seasons. The Falcons won their final four games last year after McCloskey announced his resignation on Oct. 26. Ludlowe finished 5-5, its best record since finishing 6-4 in 2009.
