New Canaan football team fills out schedule with Massachusetts school

The New Canaan High School football, which had a bye to fill, completed its schedule last week by securing a home-and-home series with Chicopee Comprehensive High School.

The Rams will host the school from Chicopee, Mass., on October 18 and play it on the road in 2014.

“It was kind of tough getting a game in the middle of the schedule,” said New Canaan coach Lou Marinelli, who said he reached out to about six or seven different states before he was informed that Chicopee also had an opening. “I didn’t want to not have a game.”

Chicopee finished 6-5 last season, ending with a 21-14 loss to Longmeadow in the Western Massachusetts Division I playoffs.

Asked what information he had about Chicopee, Marinelli said. “I don’t know the first thing about them except they have a good program.”

That leaves Brien McMahon as the only FCIAC school with a free date that needs to be filled.

Hi Pat. I don’t really know much yet other than the little I put into the post. New Canaan was having a hard time finding a game. The team rebounded from a slow start to make the Western Massachusetts playoffs last year, but right now there’s no way of telling how the level of competition compares to the FCIAC. Not sure how many players are returning. As the season starts we will have a lot more.

Very cool, I think Trumbull was the most recent team to go to Mass for a game as well. Always nice to see how this part of the country stacks up.

What do we know about them Dave?
